Volunteer Fundraiser x 5Job specification

Currently we are looking for a Volunteer Fundraiser located anywhere in the UK.

Job role

  • To achieve income and expenditure targets that will secure long term resources for the Charity.
  • To design and run a programme of key/high profile activities and events to raise income and awareness for the Charity, managing all aspects of fundraising strategy.
  • To conceive and develop new fundraising events.
  • To achieve personal fundraising targets as agreed with the Volunteer Manager.
  • To assist with the support of event participants (general public), and be the first point of contact for any fundraising enquiries.
  • To assist with key areas of administration including data entry, record keeping and letter writing as well as to collate and send fundraising materials upon request.

Graphic Designer  – Job specification

We are looking for a brilliant Graphic Designer to help us create study material for secondary school children and promotional material for our events and social media. You will be able to showcase the work of our partners in a creative and engaging manner, while delivering our core messages.

The successful applicant will already have:

  • Knowledge and experience in using Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Able to put together functional and interesting page layouts from scratch as well as the ability to follow pre-designed templates.
  • Must be able to work under own initiative and as part of a team
  • A creative thinker, able to communicate their ideas clearly and efficiently
  • Able to create eye-catching posters, brochures, etc.

 

Digital Marketer/Content writer – Job specification

Currently we are looking for a Digital Marketer located anywhere in the UK. You will be researching and writing up stories and news from neuroscience field to post as blogs and web pages and adapt for social media. You’ll also be helping with our publications, events, appeals and campaigns, corporate sponsorship stewardship and increasing our outreach. You will need to hit the ground running and be comfortable with supporting a busy team with multiple, ongoing projects.

We are looking for someone with journalistic writing skills, an understanding of how social media works, good organisational abilities and an interest in international development. Good writing and editing skills are essential, as is some experience or training in communications work.

Ideally you will have used a Content Management System (WordPress) and social media management software. Experience of using Adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Elements/Pro) is highly desirable. Above all you will be passionate about connecting people to our cause and inspiring them to act.

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will work directly with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Science Officer to coordinate all of the volunteer needs of the organization. This includes volunteers for projects, new volunteer positions for the team, and volunteers for individual events. Much of this work can be done remotely, though attendance to company meetings may sometimes be required.

Teacher Outreach Coordinator

The Teacher Outreach Coordinator will work with the Chief Executive Officer and Education Director. This position includes seeking out volunteer teachers and supporting those teachers in the development of new and existing classes. Must be comfortable starting conversations with strangers about the awesomeness of the Brain Bee! This position requires regular email communication and attendance of events and meetings as well as the development and documentation of outreach processes and class development.

Event Coordinator

The Event Coordinator will work with the Chief Executive Officer and Education Director to oversee all events at the Brain Bee. This includes classes, discussion groups, and conferences. This position requires regular email communication and occasional attendance of events and meetings.

Funding Director

The Funding Director is primarily responsible for seeking out funding opportunities and persuasively communicating Brain Bee’s mission and programs to potential funders. The Funding Director will coordinate the Funding Department, which includes leading grant writers, corporate liaisons, and other team members. Much of this work can be done remotely, and bimonthly participation in Executive meetings is mandatory.
In their role, the Funding Director will:
  • Conduct prospective grant research.
  • Maintain a calendar and ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
  • Develop, draft, and submit grant proposals to grant-making organizations such as foundations and competitions.

This person will be expected to spend 15-20 hours a month on this role.

Science Writers:

  • Report directly to Social Media Manager
  • Communicate with Course Instructors and Education Department to develop marketing content
  • Attend Brain Bee events and classes and collaborate with Staff Photographers to create blog content
  • Submit finished content to Social Media Manager
  • Have technical writing skill
  • Intro college level science knowledge and familiarity with multiple scientific disciplines,
  • An interest in Science Journalism and Reporting,
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and
  • Night and/or weekend availability to attend Brain Bee classes and events

Photographers:

  • Report directly to Social Media Manager
  • Photograph Brain Bee events and classes
  • Collaborate with Staff Writers to provide photos for blog content
  • Edit and submit photos to Google Drive
  • Have basic photo editing skills,
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and
  • Night and/or weekend availability to attend Brain Bee classes and events

While these positions allow for a flexible schedule, it will be expected that Staff Writers and Photographers report on at least one event per month, maintain communication with the Social Media Manager, and be available for one in-person or online meeting per month. Ideal volunteers for these positions will have writing and photography experience, as well as a genuine curiosity for science and interest in community education.

 

Social Media Manager:

Time commitment: 5-7 hours per week
Duties:
• Post to various social media sites on behalf of Brain Bee
• Respond to posts on various social media sites
• Work on expanding social media presence of Brain Bee
• Help analyze marketing data
Other requirements:
• Participation in executive meetings
• Use Google Groups to communicate with marketing team as well as other Brain Bee members
